Cleaning
Dental cleanings are the removal of plaque (soft, sticky, bacteria film) and tartar (calculus) deposits that builds up on teeth over time. Accumulation of the tartar and plaque provides the right conditions for bacteria to thrive next to the gums.
The purpose of the cleaning and polishing is to leave the surfaces of the teeth clean to prevent the bacteria from sticking to the teeth and aggravating the gums. When plaque and tartar accumulate over time it can lead to bone loss and periodontal disease.
During your cleaning, an assessment is made to further understand your current oral health and a personal treatment plan is made to best suit your personal needs. Dental x-rays and an examination are recommended to detect cavities.
